Streaming and video

What you may do with footage that includes Playto, and how to capture it so the translations actually show up.

Permission

Stream it, record it, monetise it. You do not need our permission and you do not need to tell us first. That covers live streams, videos, shorts, courses and guides, on any platform, including ones you earn from.

Naming Playto is optional — and we would love it if you did. A mention on screen or a link in the description (playto.dev) is how most people find out this kind of tool exists. It is a thank-you, not a condition.

Please do not imply a partnership. Don't use our name or logo as your channel's or product's branding, and don't present your video as official or endorsed unless we have agreed to that in writing.

We can only speak for Playto. The game you are playing belongs to its publisher, and so does the text on screen — the translation is a machine reading of their writing. Follow the publisher's own video policy for the game itself. If they do not allow their game to be streamed, using Playto does not change that.

One thing to tell your viewers

What they are reading is machine translation produced live on your PC, not an official localisation. Saying so once keeps people from taking an odd line as the publisher's own wording — and it is the honest framing of what Playto is: a way to read and learn while you play.

Before you go live

Check what the Playto window shows. If you switch to it on stream, your wordbook, the translation log and your session history are all on screen. None of it leaves your PC, but it is yours — decide what you are comfortable showing.

Two things never reach the recording. The green capture frame and Playto's own notices are excluded on purpose: they sit where Playto reads, so recording them would feed them back into the reading.

Capturing it in OBS

Use a Display Capture source. The overlay is a separate always-on-top window, so it is part of your screen but not part of the game. Game Capture hooks the game itself and Window Capture takes a single window; neither can include the overlay.

Run the game borderless. In exclusive fullscreen the overlay may not composite on top. Borderless windowed fixes it.

Prefer Text+ while streaming. Image mode shares your GPU with the game and the encoder, so it is the slowest choice on a busy machine.

Update if you are on an old build. Before v2026.913 the overlay could drop out of recordings for a whole session.

Want to keep Game Capture as your source and have the translations drawn on top of it? That is a different mechanism and we are considering it. Tell us through Contact us in the app or the Steam discussions — how many people ask decides whether we build it.
