Playto Cloud
Translation that starts
before the download finishes
Playto's local AI is a 2–6 GB download — worth it, and yours forever. But the game is open now. Playto Cloud translates through our servers instead: no model download, no API key, no separate account, and a free trial built in. Turn it on and the first translated line appears in seconds.
Route 1 — Local AI
Download once, translate forever
- 2–6 GB model download, one time
- Runs on your GPU, works offline
- Free and unlimited — the main engine
Route 2 — Playto Cloud
Nothing to download, start now
- First translation in seconds
- Runs on Playto's servers, GPU stays free
- Free trial included — no API key
Both routes end at the same place: the same overlay, the same session log, the same saved words. Cloud is the head start — local is the destination.
At a glance
- What it is
- An optional translation route that runs on Playto's servers instead of your GPU. Same overlay, same session log, same learning tools.
- Why it exists
- Local AI models are a 2–6 GB download and need spare GPU memory. Cloud skips both, so you can start reading in seconds.
- What it costs
- A free trial is included with Playto — no card, no separate account, no API key. Local translation stays free and unlimited.
- Where it works
- Anywhere Playto runs, including regions where big model downloads or Western AI services are unreliable.
- Your data
- Strictly opt-in. Until you turn it on, nothing leaves your PC. When it's on, we process the game text to translate it — we count requests, we don't keep your text.
Why Cloud exists
Start in seconds
Local AI is Playto's main engine, but it arrives as a 2–6 GB download. Cloud is the head start: turn it on and the first translated line appears while the models are still on their way.
No API key, ever
Cloud runs on Playto's own relay. You don't sign up with an AI provider, paste a key, or watch a usage dashboard — the trial is built in and activates with one click.
Works where downloads fail
On some networks and in some regions, multi-gigabyte model downloads stall and never finish. Cloud needs no download at all, and Playto routes around regional AI restrictions automatically.
Light on your GPU
The game keeps every megabyte of video memory. Translation happens on our servers, so Cloud is the route for laptops, handhelds and PCs that are already working hard.
Where local translation stays ahead
Cloud is not a replacement for the local engine — it is the fastest way to reach it. Local models are tuned per language pair, run with no usage limit, and keep working with the network cable unplugged. If your PC can run them, they are the recommended way to use Playto, and everything you save while using Cloud — words, sentences, album scenes — is the same data the local engine writes.
The app offers Cloud when it helps: when the local engine isn't ready or can't start on your hardware. You can also enable it yourself from the Cloud tab at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Is Playto Cloud free?
A free trial is included with both Playto Lite and the full version — no card and no separate account. Local translation, which runs on your own PC, is free and unlimited regardless.
Do I need an OpenAI or Gemini API key?
No. Cloud runs through Playto's own relay. There is nothing to sign up for and no key to paste — that's the point of it.
What happens to the text that gets translated?
When Cloud is on, the game text being translated is sent to Playto's relay, translated, and returned. The relay records how many requests were served — it does not store the text itself, and the free-text content of your games never appears in our logs.
Is Cloud on by default?
No. Cloud is strictly opt-in. Until you enable it in the app, Playto translates entirely on your own PC and nothing leaves your machine.
Does it work in mainland China or Russia?
Yes. Playto's relay automatically routes to an upstream that serves these regions, so Cloud works where many Western AI services do not. This is also the practical answer when the local model download itself won't finish on your network.
Is Cloud better than local translation?
It's faster to start, not better. Local models are tuned per language pair, work offline, and have no usage limit — they remain the recommended way to run Playto. Cloud is the way to start now and the fallback for hardware or networks that can't run local models.
What happens when the trial runs out?
Local translation keeps working — it's free and unlimited on your own hardware. Nothing about your sessions, saved words or progress is locked behind Cloud.
Open your game and start reading
The free trial is included with both versions. If Cloud fits how you play, the full version of Playto adds cursor-follow, multiple regions and unlimited saved words on top.
