Playto Lite — the free game screen translator
Playto Lite reads the on-screen text of any PC game with local OCR and shows the meaning in place, as a translation overlay — no Alt-Tab, no mods, no per-game patch. It is the free edition of Playto on Steam, and it is not a trial: no account, no subscription, no time limit.

The panel below is a mock game screen that behaves like the real overlay. Place the capture area over the dialogue and the translation appears in place. Lite reads a fixed region you draw once; the full version adds cursor-follow and whole-window reading.

How to start
- Install from Steam. Open the Playto Lite store page and click Install. No account with Playto is needed — Steam is the only login.
- First launch downloads the model. Pick your game language and your language; the OCR engine warms up and a small translation model downloads in the background. A short tutorial walks you through the controls on a sample scene.
- Draw a capture area over the text. Start your game in borderless or windowed mode, place the box over the dialogue band, and the translation appears in place. Hold the peek key to show hints only when you want them.
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11 (Windows 11 recommended — its OCR reads game text more accurately)
- A few GB of disk for the local models; a GPU helps but the default model is chosen to run on modest machines
- Games in borderless or windowed mode capture most cleanly; exclusive fullscreen may need switching

Where Lite fits
Lite is the right pick when the text sits in a predictable place: a visual novel's dialogue box, an RPG's subtitle band, a strategy game's event window. One fixed region covers it, and a controller is fine because nothing depends on a cursor.
When the text you get stuck on is scattered — tooltips, item cards, skill descriptions — that is cursor-follow territory, which is in the full version. The overlay page lays out which capture mode fits which kind of game, and the visual novel page covers the genre Lite handles best.

Yes. Playto Lite is the free version of Playto on Steam — no account, no subscription, no time limit. It is a smaller edition rather than a trial: the core translation workflow is complete, and the limits are on the learning side (100 saved words, 5 albums, 3 game profiles).
What is the difference between Playto Lite and the full version?

Is Playto Lite the same as Playto Demo?
Yes. The free edition was listed as Playto Demo when it launched in May 2026 and is now called Playto Lite: Game Screen Translator on Steam. It is the same app and the same Steam listing.
Does Playto Lite work offline?
Yes. OCR and translation run on your PC with a local model that downloads on first launch, so it works without an internet connection once set up. Playto Cloud is an optional beta for machines where the local engine cannot run.
Which games does Playto Lite work with?
Any Windows PC game, Steam or not, because it reads the screen image rather than the game's files. Borderless or windowed mode gives the cleanest capture. Nothing is installed into the game and no per-game patch is needed.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 10 and 11. Windows 11 is recommended: its built-in OCR engine reads game text more accurately. On Windows 10, Playto falls back to the standard Windows OCR, which works but is less accurate on stylized fonts.
