Overlay

The overlay displays translated text on top of your game. It also supports learning modes that test your vocabulary during gameplay.

Display

The overlay is an always-on-top, transparent, click-through window that sits over your game. It automatically positions itself based on the translation mode:

  • Cursor mode — bottom of screen, resizes based on result count
  • Fixed/Region mode — below the capture region
  • Custom position — drag to reposition the overlay

Cloze Mode Experimental

A lightweight fill-in-the-blank exercise layered onto the overlay. Non-basic words are blanked out briefly to give you a chance to recall them, then the answer appears.

Cloze is a learning experiment we're actively tuning — detection, word selection, and timing are likely to shift release to release. Treat it as a nice-to-have rather than a graded study tool for now.

Language support: Currently works best with English as the target language. Non-Latin scripts (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.) show limited or no masking effect today; broader script support is planned.

CEFR Highlighting

Words in the overlay are color-coded by estimated CEFR difficulty level. At a glance, you can see which words are beginner-friendly and which are advanced.

LevelRuleColor
A1/A2Common basic words (~300 word list)No highlight
B15 or fewer charactersAmber #fbbf24
B26-8 charactersOrange #f97316
C1+9+ characters or complexRed #ef4444

Classification uses a hardcoded A1/A2 word list plus character-length heuristics for B1-C1. Currently optimized for English text.

Customization

Adjust the overlay to your preferences in Settings:

  • Font size — scalable (default 18px)
  • Font color — custom hex (default white)
  • Line height — adjustable multiplier (default 1.4)
  • Opacity — 0-100% (default 80%)
  • Learning mode — full (show everything), cloze (fill-in-the-blank test), or off
